CFP: A Collection of Essays on the Mysticism of Death, tentatively titled: 'The Ecstasy of the End.'

Call for Papers: A Collection of Essays on the Mysticism of Death, tentatively titled: 'The Ecstasy of the End.'

We are seeking proposals for an edited volume discussing the relationship between mysticism, spirituality, and death from a wide variety of perspectives and within a wide range of contexts. In addition to inviting a range of disciplinary and methodological perspectives, papers can also be based within a particular religious tradition, or can use a comparative interreligious perspective confronting two or more traditions. Some ideas may include (though this list is far from exhaustive):

1) the process of dying as a form of ascesis
2) spiritual practice as preparation for death; or preparation for death as spiritual practice
3) caring for the dying as a spiritual practice
4) death as a spiritual battlefield
5) death and visionary experiences
6) near-death experiences
7) spiritual vs. bodily death
8) philosophical speculation on the nature and experience of death

Proposals should be between 200 and 300 words. Authors are asked to include brief biographical details along with their submissions, including name and academic affiliation. Please submit proposals either electronically or by regular mail. Deadline for submissions is March 31st, 2013. Submit to either:
