Into That Good Night: Contemporary Art Approaches to End of Life Issues

Over the next five years Fabrica is producing three major exhibition commissions and a series of stand alone events and discussions that explore ageing and end of life as themes.

This commissioning strand is part of a larger programme of work, Growing an Older Audience that Fabrica is undertaking in order to develop older audiences for its programme, and which is funded by Arts Council South East and the EU Interreg IVA Channel programme.

The exhibition commissions specifically look at death, its aftermath and our relationship to it both as an idea and as a process. Each exhibition is supported by an education programme and is developed as a collaborative venture between the commissioned artist, palliative care professionals Dr Andreas Hiersche and Jan MacFadyen, Dr Paul Davies (Reader in Philosophy at University of Sussex), Liz Whitehead, a Co-Director of Fabrica gallery and other Fabrica staff and partners. Despite the gravity of the subject matter the Into That Good Night programme is devised to engage a broad audience.

The exhibition commissions are scheduled to take place in 2013, 2015 and 2017 with the first A Cold Hand on a Cold Day by Jordan Baseman showing 5 October - 24 November 2013. Exhibitions by Elpida Hadzi-Vasileva and Steven Eastwood are planned for 2015 and 2017.

Other events are planned for 2014 and 2016. These will support the development of the artistsí work, the cross-disciplinary team and build a critically engaged audience.

More information about the exhibition commissions, artists, events and discussion days will be added to this website as and when it becomes available. If you would like to receive information about these exhibitions, events and activities please join the Into That Good Night mailing list.
