Kearl was death and dying expert at Trinity University - San Antonio Express- News With his curiosity of human nature and a love of sociology, Michael Charles Kearl became a sought-after expert on death and dying and was a longtime sociology professor at Trinity University. For his dissertation, entitled "The Social Construction of Old Age in America," Kearl delved into gerontology, which is the study of aging. Kearl taught various classes ranging from introduction to sociology to death and dying, and was chair of the Sociology and Anthropology Department from 2001 to 2006. At one point he was even invited to be a keynote speaker at Aalborg University in Denmark, where he gave the opening statement for the inauguration of their Humanistic Palliative Care program.
