Gallery: First World War Memorial

Description: First World War Memorial in Newcastle upon Tyne, designed by sculptor Sir
William Goscombe John R.A. (1860 - 1952), and unveiled in 1923. It is
called 'The Response - 1914' and is based on the embarkation of Newcastle
regiments to go to France in 1915. The inscription on the memorial reads,
Non Sibi Sed Patriae (Not for Self, but for Country).
