DDD 13 awards presentation

On 6 September 2017, ASDS President Professor Allan Kellehear was delighted to present the inaugural ASDS Awards.

Founding ASDS President Professor Jenny Hockey is presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award. This is awarded to ASDS members who have made significant contributions to Death Studies over the course of a career. Allan paid especial tribute to Jenny’s support of newer Death Studies researchers.

Founding ASDS member, Mortality founding editor and Centre for Death & Society co-founder Professor Glennys Howarth is presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Allan describes Glennys as “pivotal” in the establishment of Death Studies as a field of academic study.

Professor Carol Komaromy is presented with her Public Education Award. In addition to running popular Death Studies courses at the Open University and hosting DDD11, Carol has brought Death Studies to public attention through her media work.
