ASDS mission statement
The Association for the Study of Death and Society (‘ASDS’) is dedicated to studying and understanding death, dying, grief and bereavement from a variety of perspectives. It brings together a diverse international community of researchers, professionals and interested parties through a range of supportive initiatives and activities.
ASDS values
- ASDS (the Association for the Study of Death and Society) promotes a value-based approach to all its practices, building trust-based relationships with its members and ambassadors, and establishing reciprocal collaborations.
- ASDS promotes equality of opportunity and fairness among its members and ambassadors.
- ASDS facilitates the growth of a learning exchange culture wherein everyone’s views are voiced and respected.
- ASDS respects and welcomes individuals from all backgrounds, without discrimination or prejudice.
- ASDS encourages active collaborations amongst its members, ambassadors and support groups. Our aim is to foster a sense of belonging and growth that promotes interdisciplinarity, collegial and collaborative networking, and the widespread recognition of death studies.
- ASDS promotes the sharing of knowledge relating to death and society. ASDS supports this through its various activities, including DDD conferences; ASDS events and initiatives; Mortality journal; Deadlines newsletter; member-based groups; and the ASDS website.
