Katharina Wegerer – Events Secretary

Katharina Wegerer (FHEA) recently passed her English Literature PhD at the University of Dundee, exploring recuperative figurations of death and related characters in contemporary fiction. Her research takes a highly interdisciplinary approach, working at the intersection of current events, publications and cultural observations, and thus draws connections not only between the fictional worlds of stories and very real anxieties, but between literary and death studies, psychology, philosophy, cultural studies and grief theory.

Throughout her PhD, Katharina worked as a tutor on undergraduate tutorials in English Literature and Film as well as for the Academic Skills Centre at the University of Dundee. She also co-organised the 2022 Postgraduate Symposium ‘Dwelling in Extremis’ in collaboration with DJCAD at Dundee to facilitate interdisciplinary dialogue and academic exchange.

Outside of an academic setting, Katharina has vast experience in public-facing roles and events work as a volunteer coordinator, creative facilitator, FoH assistant and amateur performer, which directly feeds into her creative research into storytelling as well as the ongoing development of her teaching abilities, and has further allowed her to build a network of not only academic researchers and practitioners, but also creatives in Scotland, England and Austria.
